About Us

India Agrivoltaics Alliance

The India Agrivoltaics Alliance (IAA), anchored by the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI), is a multi-stakeholder platform dedicated to promoting the dual use of land for solar energy generation and agriculture. Agrivoltaics offers a sustainable solution that enhances farmer incomes, improves land productivity, and meets rural energy needs. Since its formal launch in 2023, IAA has grown into a 40+ member alliance, working closely with key ministries such as MNRE, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ministry of Rural Development to integrate agrivoltaics into India's policy framework.

IAA focuses on both policy advocacy and on-ground implementation, particularly in states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana. The Alliance has published several key resources, including handbooks for policymakers and farmers, business model reports, and a white paper on workforce participation. Moving forward, IAA aims to establish pilot projects across multiple states to validate agrivoltaics business models, helping mainstream this approach as a scalable solution for India’s renewable energy and agricultural sectors.

Scaling Agrivoltaics in India

India stands at a pivotal juncture in its renewable energy transition, with agrivoltaics emerging not as an innovation, but as a necessary convergence point between agricultural resilience, rural livelihoods, and clean energy infrastructure. Across three national stakeholder roundtables spanning perspectives from bankers, developers, DFIs, state livelihood missions, FPOs, and implementation partners coherent institutional diagnosis has taken shape. While the technical feasibility of agrivoltaics is increasingly established, its financial, legal, and operational scaolding remains fragmented. These roundtables are driven by the basic idea behind public policy that “How much Citizen is willing to pay for the technology?” Based on the Three Stakeholder Roundtables on Agrivoltaics in India below it was followed by strategic recommendations.
